National Ice Cream Day is This Sunday: Celebrate for Free!

National Ice Cream Day is this Sunday!

Celebrate National Ice Cream Day this year with these free offers, and don’t miss out on our favorite one – happening today only! Plus, check out the recipe below for our one ingredient silky smooth “skinny” ice cream you can make at home today.

This Sunday is National Ice Cream Day, a holiday declared by then-President Ronald Reagan in 1984. Did you know that the U.S. consumes 18.4 liters of ice cream per person per year, compared with 10 liters per person in Australia, 5 liters in Britain and 4 liters in China? To celebrate the cold, creamy delight, restaurants and ice cream chains across the country have deals on offer — from free upgrades, to coupons and even free servings of ice cream.

Our favorite offer is this one from Uber: On Friday, July 15, people can have Magnum ice cream bars delivered to them by Uber, free of charge. Free deliveries are available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Did you know other National Ice Cream Day offerings, that even includes a treat available for your pet! Pet-supplies retailer PetSmart is offering free Doggie Ice Cream Sundaes at all PetSmart PetsHotel locations on Sunday. Can you believe it?

And if you are watching your nutritional intake, and your cheat day is just not going to happen fast enough, consider our favorite “skinny” ice cream recipe made with just one ingredient and no ice creme maker!

What is this one magic ingredient that can be whipped into rich and silky ice cream, with no additional dairy, sweeteners, or ingredients needed whatsoever?

Did you guess banana? If so, congratulations!!

One-Ingredient Banana Ice Cream

Makes 2 servings, about 1 cup

This is a wonderful way to “save” your bananas before they get overripe!

  • Put the bananas in an airtight container.
  • Freeze the banana pieces for at least 2 hours.
  • Blend the frozen banana pieces in a small food processor or powerful blender till silky smooth.
  • Transfer to an airtight container and freeze until solid. You can eat the ice cream immediately, but it will be quite soft.

Enjoy!
